‘Living beyond disabilities.’ – Hasan Zuhudi

Dr. Hasan Zuhudi Abdullah is a Professor at the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He is currently the Deputy Dean (Research, Development and Publication).

He obtained his B.Eng. and M.Sc. in Materials Engineering from the University of Science Malaysia (USM) in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. (2010) in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of New South Wales Sydney (UNSW), Australia. He then furthered his research at the post-doctoral level at the Institute of Biomaterials, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany (2015-2017).

Before he joined UTHM, he worked as a Lab Demonstrator at the University Technology Petronas and a Tutor at the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, University of Science Malaysia (USM).

He joined UTHM (formerly known as KUiTTHO) as a lecturer in 2003 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2010. He was appointed an Associate Professor in 2014 until 2022.

He is active in national society and is currently President of X-Ray Application Malaysia (XAPP-MNS). He is also a Principal Researcher at the Centre for Bioactive Materials (BioMA) and a member of the Malaysian Biomaterials Society (MBS), Microscopy Society Malaysia (MSM), Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM), Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)

His research interests focus on advanced materials, mainly biomaterials (bioceramics and biopolymers) and anodic oxidation of titanium. He has researched the extraction of hydroxyapatite and gelatine from fish bone, skin and scale, electrophoretic deposition, and microcapsules of natural self-healing agents for coating application. Through these research works, he also managed to win several national and international awards from International Research and Innovation Symposium and Exposition (RISE), Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand Symposium on Innovation and Creativity (iMIT SIC ), Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE), The International Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exhibition (ITEX), International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA) and Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF).

To recognise his expertise and over 20 years of experience in teaching and research, he has graduated 6 PhD and 7 Master students. He was appointed a Visiting Research Fellow at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNiMAP) from 2020-2022. Furthermore, apart from being invited as a keynote speaker at local and international conferences, he has also been appointed as an academic external examiner/advisor for the Diploma programme for some institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.
