In conjunction with with the International Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics in Research Industry (CFDRI) 2017 which was held at BP Samila Beach Hotel Resort, Songkhla, Thailand on 3-4 August 2017, two Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between UTHM and Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand. PSU was the first university established in southern Thailand, 50 years ago and now has become a Research University (RU) with 39 faculties and 40 research and excellence centres. At the moment, PSU has wore than 42,000 in 5 campuses in Hat Yai (main), Pattani, Phuket, Surat Thani and Trang.
The first MOA was The first MoA was on Research and Development collaboration in the area of energy and clean technology in three niche areas.
i) Energy Management and Efficiency, focusing on the development of ASEAN Green Building rating tool
ii) Biofuel and Bioenergy, focusing on novel biomass conversion techniques via combustion and gasification; and
iii) Clean Technology, focusing onthe development of dual fuel system and novel gas turbine cooling techmiques.
This MOA will be executed by the Center for Energy and Industrial Environment Studies (CEIES) on behalf of UTHM and PSU Energy System Research Institute on behalf of PSU.
The second MOA was between UTHM and PSU was in the collboration for Double Degree Program (by research mode), for postgraduate studies. The aim of this MoA was to enable the postgraduate students whom enroll in this program to graduate with double degree upon successfully completing thier studies on their respective research area. Apart from that, this MOA also enhances the development, implementation, monitoring and improvement of the double degree program, apart from joint supervision and publication. This MOA will be executed by the Department of Energy and Thermofluids, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering on behalf of UTHM and it’s PSU counterpart, Depart of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
Representing the University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia for the MOAs signing was our beloved Vice Chancellor, The Honourable Professor Dr. Wahid bin Razzaly while Prince of Songkla University was represented by it’s President, The Honourable Associate Professor Dr. Chusak Limsakul. Both MOAs were witnessed by Associate Professor Dr Shahruddin bin Mahzan @ Mohd Zin, official representative of Registrar of UTHM and Associate Professor Dr. Udhompon Puetpaiboon representing PSU. Both MOA is expected to boost joint collaboration on R D and academics at international level apart from exchange of expertise between UTHM and PSU in the coming years.
