UTHM signed a Memorandum of Agreement with aircraft maintenance training provider, MATA. The MOA is a continuity of various meetings and discussions that have been conducted in advance between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing (FKMP) through its Department of Aeronautical Engineering, JKA and MATA since 2016.
With the memorandum of agreement, MATA officially became UTHM industrial partner, specifically to the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, particularly in the implementation of programs and activities that will benefit both sides. Apart from that, the agreement between UTHM and Malaysian Aviation Training Academy would make it possible for the university to collaborate in term of aircraft maintenance license training for students and staffs.
The aviation industry, especially the maintenance and repair sectors, is continually in need of dynamic, skilled and professionally-inclined personnel in order to cope with the rapid growth of the industry. The strength and the effectiveness of the aircraft operators and aviation-related companies are critically linked to the availability of these trained personnel.
MATA is an Approved Training Organization Part147 (ATO.147/0005/13) accredited by the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCAM), grooms future Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Technicians using DCAM EASA Part66 syllabus. Officially incepted in 2005, this Kuantan-based (Pahang, Malaysia), Bumiputra wholly-owned aircraft maintenance training institution is dilligently marking its niche through worthy accomplishments.

This Memorandum of Agreement is witnessed by Associate Professor Dr Shahruddin bin Mahzan @ Mohd Zin, Official Representative of Registrar of UTHM and Mr Ungku Hassanal Jalilul Jabbar Bin Ungku Mohd Tahir, GROUP General Manager Quality Assurance of MATA. The event was held at Kings Green Hotel, Melaka, in conjunction with International Research and Innovation Summit (iRiS’17) (6th May 2017) and attended by MATA & UTHM management staff.
