Dr. Abdul Rasid Abdul Razzaq is a professor at the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FPTV), UTHM. Currently, he is the dean of FPTV. He has contributed enormously to the field of education, both locally and internationally. He has served as an educator for twenty-four (24) years. He began his career as a lecturer at Johor Bahru Polytechnic (now known as Sultan Ibrahim Polytechnic) before joining UTHM in 2005.
During his time at UTHM, he held several management positions at FPTV before being appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education. In 2006, he was appointed as the first head of the research and development department at FPTV and the head of the Advanced Center for Technical and Vocational Education (ACTiVE) in 2014. Between 2014 and 2019, he held the Deputy Dean of Academics and International position at FPTV.
Dr. Abdul Rasid obtained his PhD in 2014 in the field of urban and regional planning at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). His PhD research focused on community empowerment towards sustaining Community Based Tourism (CBT) development. He also has several professional certifications in teaching, such as the Diploma in Technical Education (MPT), Vocational Training Officer (VTO), Vocational Training Executive (VTE), and Vocational Training Manager (VTM).
His areas of expertise and research interests include training and development for CBT, homestay, desa stay and kampung stay, community empowerment and capacity building, Community Based Ecotourism (CBET) development, organization and leadership for CBET, marketing CBET, and other areas of soft TVET. Dr. Abdul Rasid has also been involved in several studies through research grants under the auspices of the FRGS and ERGS categories. Currently, he leads an FRGS research grant on “High impact training models among Malaysian indigenous communities towards the sustainable development of indigenous communities in Malaysia.”
As an academician, he has shared research outputs through publication in journal articles, seminars, forums, and so on. In addition, Dr. Rasid conducts many courses, especially among communities involved in tourism development organized by MOTAC, FRIM, the Johore Homestay Association, the Endau Rompin National Park Corporation (PTNJ), JAKOA, and others. His expertise and experiences enable him to continue contributing to society and academic organizations through various platforms. He is an advisor for the Johor Homestay Association, an industry advisor at Sultan Ibrahim Polytechnic, an academic advisor at Vocational College, an external examiner at Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM), TVET Governance Working Committee (JKK), and National Skills Development Council (MPKK)
At international level contributions, Dr. Abdul Rasid has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of the Regional Association for Vocational Teacher Education (RAVTE), as a visiting professor at Universiti Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and Universiti Negri Jogjakarta (UNY).
