UTHM Expert: Professor Dr. Abd Samad Hasan Basari

Professor Dr. Abd Samad Hasan Basari is a distinguished academician in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology, at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Mathematics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1998 and then Master of Information Technology in Education (Computational Modelling) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2002. In 2009, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Information and Communication Technology by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Malaysia with his doctoral research concentrating on Maintenance Modelling with a specific focus on incomplete data. His scholarly contributions in this domain have advanced methodologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Fuzzy Logic, Optimisation, and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP).

Currently he is the Head of Soft Computing and Data Mining Research Centre (SMC), UTHM pioneering research initiatives. His unwavering commitment to research has culminated in the publication of over 150 peer reviewed papers in esteemed academic journals and conferences, thereby establishing his prominence within the global academic community. In addition to his research accomplishments, he has also supervised and mentored more than 25 doctoral and master’s candidates and all of them have successfully completed their studies under his guidance.

His expertise is widely recognised with his active participation in various academic and research related capacities. He has served as an editor and reviewer for high impact journals and conferences, and as a member of steering committees for numerous international academic events. His scholarly reputation has merited his appointment as a panelist for academic promotions at both national and international institutions, as an evaluator for research grants under the auspices of Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), as well as an external examiner for postgraduate dissertations.

Throughout his distinguished career, he has led numerous research projects as the principal investigator for eight significant projects and contributing as a project member in over 20 additional research initiatives. These projects have been funded by esteemed bodies such as the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the Ministry of Health (MOH), Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), as well as leading universities including UTHM, UTeM, and UTM. His active engagement in international academic visits and networking events has facilitated collaborations with institutions from various countries, including Australia, Libya, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. Notably, he has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering, Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Bandung (STT Bandung), Indonesia.

His extensive contributions to the academic and research communities have solidified his standing as a preeminent scholar in the fields of Computational Modelling, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Business Intelligence (BI). His scholarly endeavors have exerted significant influence at both national and international levels, further reinforcing his reputation as a dedicated academician committed to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation within his discipline.
