Sr. Dr Rozilah Kasim is a professor specialising in Real Estate & Facilities Management at the Department of Real Estate Management, Faculty of Technology Management & Business. She has been part of UTHM since January 2002, after gaining valuable experience in development and chartered valuation firms. Dr Rozilah maintains strong professional ties with the real estate industry through memberships in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in the UK and the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM).
Her academic journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Estate (Land) Management from the University of East London, UK, in 1991. She then earned a Master of Science in Facilities Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2000. She later completed her PhD in Property and Facilities Management at the University of Salford, UK, in 2007.
She has successfully supervised 19 PhD students and 7 master’s research students and is currently mentoring 6 PhD candidates. Additionally, she has read and examined about 100 PhD and master’s theses as an internal and external examiner. In recognition of her exceptional mentorship, she received the Outstanding Supervisor Award (PhD category) in 2012 and the Most Outstanding Supervisor Award (faculty level) in 2024. Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as Special Property Valuation, Land Acquisition and Valuation, Asset Valuation, Applied Valuation, and Facilities and Asset Management for MBA students.
She heads the Research Centre for Project, Property, and Facilities Management Services (PRoFMs). Various research grants from KPT, industries and UTHM support her research and consultation efforts. Her research and academic pursuits are centred around PRoFMS-related topics, including sustainable housing, neighbourhood facilities, community-based FM, the forest school pedagogy model, asset valuation (both tangible & intangible), space and building management systems, community happiness index indicators, the green building valuation model, facilities audits for disability and indigenous studies. Additionally, she leads community consultation projects, including public facilities maintenance in Parit Sulong and development initiatives for the Orang Asli community in Johor.
She disseminates her research widely by publishing in reputable journals. Her book, Community-based Facilities Management: Theory & Practice, was awarded the best book of 2012. To add up, she also serves in the editorial and reviewer teams for several esteemed journals.
To date, she has held several administrative positions including Deputy Dean of Research, Development & Publication, Head of UTHM Publisher, Deputy Director of the International Office and Head of the Department of Construction and Real Estate Management.
