Ishak Baba is a Professor at the Department of Vocational Education, Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education (FPTV), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He is an expert in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). He was responsible to lead the Centre for Academic Development and Training (CAD) from 2009 until 2012 before he was given the mandate to establish and lead a new faculty namely the Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTK) which offers 13 Bachelor’s and 2 Master’s degree programmes as well as 1 Doctoral Degree programme.
He also initiated collaborations with the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), Department Skills Development, Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) and Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) to facilitate Outcome-Based Education (OBE) management and development at all education levels. His research mainly focuses on Occupational Safety and Health issues and TVET. His relationship with Malaysia Technical University Network (MTUN) has also been extremely helpful in conducting TVET-based programmes at several faculties in UTHM, especially FPTV and FTK.
Prof. Ishak is very active in voluntary work. He has been appointed as a Commander in Siswa Siswi Pertahanan Awam (SISPA) UTHM and the Vice-Chairman of SISPA Management Committee. Furthermore, he was also the Assistant Honorary Commissioner (PPj), Malaysia Civil Defence, the highest position he held in SISPA. Besides, he has been the Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Menengah Tun Hussein Onn, one of the sports schools in Johor since 2010.
Additionally, Prof. Ishak was awarded some certificates of skills by Majlis Latihan Vokasional Kebangsaan (MLVK). These include basic bricklaying and advanced furniture-making skills.
