BATU PAHAT, 12 March 2025 – Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has been awarded the prestigious UNESCO Chair on TVET Educator Competence and Transversal Skills for Professional Development for the period of 2025-2029.

This recognition reinforces UTHM’s global leadership in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), highlighting its commitment to research, innovation, and sustainable development.

The UNESCO Chair is part of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, aimed at promoting international collaboration, knowledge sharing, and interdisciplinary research aligned with UNESCO’s mission in education, science, culture, and communication.

UTHM joins an exclusive group, becoming one of only six UNESCO Chair holders in Malaysia.

The four-year initiative aligns closely with UNESCO’s 2022-2029 Medium-Term Strategy and contributes directly to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically on gender inclusive TVET programme-enhancing women’s participation and leadership, empowering TVET educators by strengthening capabilities in digital pedagogy, ethics and institutional development as well as greening TVET research and development to promote sustainable practices within teacher training programmes.

Emeritus Professor Dr. Jailani Md Yunos is appointed as the Chairholder, bringing extensive expertise and experience in TVET to lead these significant projects and foster international collaboration including research partnerships, community empowerment programmes, and academic exchanges, thereby enhancing Malaysia’s international education profile.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr. Ruzairi Abdul Rahim expressed his pride and optimism regarding the appointment.
