In February 2017, heavy rainfall has resulted in severe floods in Segamat, Johor. Several areas were affected, particularly in the Segamat river basin. The floods were reported as the worst in Segamat in more than a decade. As immediate relief efforts by the Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTK), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, a team of 30 staffs and students were volunteered to join the relief mission.
The event was flagged-off by the FTK Dean on 18 February 2017. The aims of this post-flood relief mission were to assist the local communities to clean and repair their premises. Besides, the program allows the students to enhance their soft skills and to cultivate the sense of care and love. It is hoped after cleaning process, any possible disease can be curbed and eradicated. The costs for the program is RM1800.
Overall, the success of the post-flood relief mission has been recognized by the village development and security committee (JKKK) of Kampung Sempadan Batu Badak. Certainly, this program should be continued in the future to inculcate good moral values among FTK students and staffs. The FTK sincerely would like to extend the gratitude and appreciation to all FTK students, staffs and communities of Kampung Sempadan Batu Badak for making this event possible and successful.
