BATU PAHAT, 23 May 2025 – UTHM Students, staff and visitors can now enjoy improved high-speed internet coverage across UTHM Kampus Parit Raja, Kampus Cawangan Pagoh and Kampus Tanjung Laboh thanks to a nationwide initiative led by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under the Universal Service Providers (USP) framework.

The initiative, announced earlier this year by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to bridge the digital divide in higher education by improving connectivity and digital infrastructure in public universities.

UTHM was selected as a beneficiary of this effort, with EDOTCO Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. appointed as the Designated Universal Service Provider (DUSP) to deliver the infrastructure upgrades.

The scope included the supply, installation, and commissioning of wireless access points to provide high-speed and secure campus-wide Wi-Fi.

A signing and handover ceremony to mark the project’s completion was held today at Perpustakaan Tunku Tun Aminah (PTTA), UTHM Parit Raja campus.

The event was officiated by Professor Ir. Dr. Md Saidin Wahab, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Digital and Infrastructure), Professor Dr. Nazri Mohd Nawi, Director of the Centre for Information Technology alongside senior representatives from MCMC and EDOTCO.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to creating a digitally resilient learning environment.

“It supports not only academic needs but also research, administration, and the overall digital transformation journey of UTHM.

“We are thankful for the support provided by MCMC and the collaboration with EDOTCO that made this possible,” said Prof.  Saidin during his speech.

Representing EDOTCO, Noreen Sabrina Mohd Noor, Director of Corporate Affairs, echoed the company’s vision, they are proud to be part of a government-driven initiative that aligns with our mission of strengthening Malaysia’s digital infrastructure.

“While we work behind the scenes, our goal is to lay the foundation for institutions like UTHM to move confidently into the digital future,” she said.
