Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Khairul bin Ahmad who was born in 1979 in Malacca, is a renowned expert in the field of material science, particularly in nanotechnology. His academic journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering from Gunma University, Japan. With his strong foundation in that field, he then pursued a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), before obtaining his PhD in Electronics Engineering from Shizuoka University, Japan.
In 2007, Prof. Khairul joined Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) as a tutor, marking the beginning of a remarkable career dedicated to academic excellence and research innovation. His contributions were recognised by the university, leading to his appointment as the main researcher at the Microelectronics and Nanotechnology-Shamsuddin Research Centre (MiNT-SRC) in 2013. In his role as researcher, he has spearheaded numerous research projects, particularly in dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSC), photocatalysis, thermoelectric materials, photoluminescence, and electrolytes.
Prof. Khairul’s career development reflects his deep commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application while his dedication to both research and teaching is driven by his strong focus on practical applications that address real-world challenges. Since 2015, he has provided professional consultation to both schools and industries, offering his expertise to enhance technological innovation and problem-solving. His leadership in research is proven with 80 research grants and contracts which have fueled groundbreaking advancements in nanotechnology.
Apart from his research achievements, Prof. Khairul is a dedicated educator in which he had supervised 14 master’s students and 15 PhD students, guiding them through complex research challenges and contributing to the next generation of engineers and scientists that further expanding his influence in the academic community. His teaching portfolio is diverse, covering courses such as IC Packaging, Engineering Management, Engineering Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, Electronics Circuit Analysis and Design, Electrical Technology, and Semiconductor Electronics and Devices.
His extensive list of publications and conference presentations, combined with his active role in professional consultation, underscores his standing as a leading expert in his field, both in Malaysia and internationally.
Currently, Prof. Khairul holds the position as the Director of Institute for Integrated Engineering (I²E), UTHM. With his current role, he continues to lead innovative research initiatives and foster collaborations that push the boundaries of material science and engineering.
